5 hacks to take you from busy & burnt out to calm & killing it

Super-busy and running on fumes? So was I….

If you feel like no matter how diligently you work on your to-do list, you just can’t hack it, I SO know how you feel!!

Until a couple of years ago, I was on a typical career path, which included two masters degrees and work in high-paced corporate and consulting jobs. I loved the travel, the Fortune 500 C-suite clients, my brilliant colleagues and the impact that we were making. However, the thrill of this lifestyle gradually turned into a terrible burden as I became a parent, and had my second and third child. My husband and I have always been a great team, equal and supportive. It was a delicate balancing act, which worked for a few years and then didn’t.

The international travel, the late night work calls, being last to pick up at school, the kids’ sick days, after school activities, my aging parents, and maintaining a semblance of a household, it was just too much. I’d scream in the car at stop lights, or sit for long minutes at the office parking lot, trying to get it together and start my work day.

There were upsides, of course. I got several promotions, the money was good, we could afford nice family vacations and a new car. But I wasn’t home enough, and was always distracted when I was there. My kids were clingy, fighting all the time, and ate mostly carbs drenched in ketchup. I suffered the dreaded brain fog, at times regretting my decision to become a parent, feeling weak, losing my confidence, and screwed up both at home and at work. I was burned out.

Then my husband changed jobs and I was able to just quit. I thought that everything would improve once work was out of the equation, but guess what? It sucked! I felt even more of a failure. Financially, I could stay at home full-time for a while, but I was sinking into a depression. Plus, I couldn’t stand the fact that my husband was working and I was not, every feminist bone in my body screamed injustice! Clearly I had to figure out a way to work and enjoy it, be a good parent and have time for myself. It took a lot of reading, hacking, habit changing, lots of crying, meditating, reframing and healing, until the journey made sense and my system was born. It really works, and it can work for you, too!

Do you relate? Are you at a point where trying to excel at work, at home, and also care for yourself seems to be a zero-sum game? Do you feel that something’s got to give? Does your heart sink when your boss asks to talk to you, does your kids’ screen time exceed their waking hours, and the last time you just chilled, totally guilt-free was… when? Spring break of senior year? It seems like another life.

But I PROMISE you, you CAN have the balanced impactful life of you dreams!
